Escaped slavery and married

Frederick Douglass met Anna Murray in Baltimore where he labored in the shipyards. Anna Murray was a free African American woman who helped him escape to the North where people weren’t enslaved. He rode a train to New York city in 1838. They met there and were married. They were blessed with 5 children during their 44-year marriage.
